Birthdays

Telena's birthday cake was so much fun to make. I am still learning how to decorate them and I feel like they get better each time. The cupcakes were fun to do because they were smaller and easier to handle.
She was so cute blowing out her own candles. I love that I have this moment captured in a photo.

Devouring a cupcake. Love the frosting all over her mouth!

Rylee and Cade got to pick out a present for her from the dollar store. Rylee picked out this Princess and the Frog wand (which broke before she even got to open it).

And Cade picked out this "Get Well Soon" balloon. He would not be persuaded otherwise. We all thought it was hilariously fitting with her broken arm and cast.

Cade's cake. Nothing too fancy here. I was going for easy because I still hadn't washed out the frosting tips from Telena's birthday cake (oh and we had a preschool St. Patty's Day party at our house that morning). It tasted good though!

Cade blowing out his candles. Isn't it such a boy thing to have dirt all over his face for his birthday?

Showing his dad how old he is. He loves being four- and can't wait to be five. He keeps telling me that when he's five he gets to go to school. I have to remind him that he'll have to be five and a half.

Cade's present that Cole bought from Cabela's. It has toy shell casings that eject and it makes shooting noises when you pull the trigger. He LOVES it!

February Summary

What books and/or magazines did I read this month?
This month I paid our dues to the library (since we live in a somewhat rural area, where we live does not fall in our city limits- to use the library for free- so we have to pay every year). We hadn't renewed it with Cole being out of work, but we can get books now! I can't beleive how starved I was to read something. I grabbed a book off the new release shelf and got lost in it for a day- I think it was by JoAnn Power- a murder mystery book. So fun.

What movies, television shows, plays, etc. did I watch this month?
We are so sad that Heroes has finished. I did watch an old movie on Netflix online- The Count of Monte Christo- that makes me want to read a lot of the old classic books. We also watched Yes Man with Jim Carrey- so funny and a good one with him, not too crazy.

What fun things did I do with my family and/or friends?
We had a preschool Valentine party- passing out cards, eating pizza and decorating cookies. The kids ate all of their candy in one day (I didn't want it sticking around forever). At our house for Valentine's day we made heart-shaped scones for dinner. For Valentine's weekend, I asked out Cole to go to the Stake Valentine's Sadie Hawkins Dance. It was so much fun. It was actually the first time we've ever danced together.

This is the card I made and slipped it in his lunch to ask him to the dance. It totally cracks me up!

What gifts did I give and/or receive?
Valentine's. I got roses. And Cole settled our rose debate by getting me two bouquets of roses- one the week before Valentine's and one the day after Valentine's. He's so funny- he'd rather overdo it than be accused of forgetting one.

I got these roses and the ones pictured in the last post.

We also had Telena's birthday this month. I couldn't think of what to get her because it seems so soon after Christmas that I didn't want to get more toys. So she got a couple of dresses (which will be well used with three wedding coming up in April, May and June). And then I took Rylee and Cade to the dollar store (which was FUN let me tell you) and they each picked out a present. Rylee got her a Princess and the Frog wand and Cade picked out a balloon that said "Get Well" on it- I could not persuade him to get a birthday one. And I made a cake and cupcakes and we invited Cole's dad over for cake and ice cream. I'll post more pictures later.

She blew out her own candles this year.

What special or unusual purchases did I make?
We bought a car on eBay! We had been looking on Craigslist, and then looked on eBay and found one there for a lot cheaper. It was in California, so Cole and his dad flew to LA and then drove it home. It's really nice- a 99 Camry XLE. It drives so smooth and it has leather seats and a moon roof!

What illnesses or health concerns did I have?
Telena broke her arm! She fell off the arm of the couch one morning, but it took me a few days to realize there was something really wrong. She didn't act like it hurt very much (well, she cried when it happened, but I thought she just sprained her wrist or something) but she wasn't using that hand to do very much. So I took her in to the Pediatrician and they did some x-rays (she didn't even whimper during the exam or x-ray). Then they referred us to an Orthopedic Surgeon to do the cast. We had our family's first broken bone this month!

Funny thing though. This purple cast didn't even last a whole week. It came off her arm! I picked her up to get ready for bed the Monday after she got it and her elbow was at the top of the cast. It just slipped right off! So I took her in again for another x-ray and another cast- this time it's bright pink because I had Rylee with me too and she got to pick the color. And it's not coming off this time!

What were my accomplishments this month?
I did the photography challenge that I posted previously. And survived soccer games with Cade. His games were on Saturday mornings, so I would work Friday nights, come home and get everyone ready and go to the games and then come home and sleep. I was so tired every weekend.

What were my disappointments this month?
Missing our Temple Night. We didn't go this month or last, so I've really been feeling the lack of it.

Anything else noteworthy to include?
Something we love to do (Rylee especially) is to stop by the horse place across the street to see the foals on the way home from the bus stop. They are so cute!

And this picture is just for Maria- she loves to make him have a mohawk when it gets long!
